More than one way to uncork a bottle...?

Aside from being colleagues and fellow User Group Leaders I have been friends with Brad Bird for a couple of years now, and on so many levels I have the greatest respect for him.  He is an Active Directory guru, and is very passionate about IT Community, just as I am.

This week-end was not the first time that I stayed with Brad and Nadine (and Rusty the Greyhound of course!) at their beautiful house in Gatineau, but it was the first time that I brought Theresa, Aaron, and Jacob.  Rather than going out for dinner Saturday night Nadine decided to prepare dinner, and she did a spectacular job of it that would make her Italian grandmother proud.  From the first course to the last dinner was truly magnificent, and the lady of the house deserved full kudos.  Her husband, on the other hand, shall now be the subject of ridicule.

To accompany dinner they chose a very nice bottle of red wine, and as Theresa and I sat in the IMG_0001living room playing with the dogs, Brad went to the kitchen to open it.  I could not understand why it was taking him so long, but I assumed he just could not get the wrapping off clean.  He was fighting with it for a couple of minutes when I went over to get something, and saw the wine bottle, seal still on, with a hole in the cap.  Brad had not realized that the bottle was a screw top, and using his fancy corkscrew had drilled a hole clean through the metal screw top.

As I started laughing Nadine noticed why, and told me she was happy that I had been there to witness it, because nobody would believe her otherwise.  For the sake of posterity I got out the digital camera and as promised am posting it here for the world to see.  I know that Brad will get me back some day, and chances are my friends are currently lining up to recount stories of their favourite of my faux-pas.  No worries... if you can't laugh at yourself... at least for today there's Brad :)
