So I showed up at the training centre on time this morning, that is I showed up an hour early. The door was locked, and the receptionist and her friend were waiting outside. They suggested I go get breakfast and since I had skipped it because I lost track of time while chatting with Theresa, I decided to comply.
Like many cities there are at least two Hong Kongs... the one that is for tourists and ex-pats, around the hotels, shopping districts, and so on. It is where stores are named Hermes and Chanel and though everything is expensive it is also familiar... ish.
Then there is the Hong Kong for the natives, where signs are not bilingual, where clerks and waitresses do not speak English. I found this restaurant by following an arrow into an alleyway. It had a French-ish name, but that was where the western influence ended... or so I thought.
The menu on the wall was a mix of characters and pictures. There was a lineup and I dutifully queued up while examining the pictures. Fortunately there was a smattering of English explanations... I don't know how they decided what warranted this, but I made do. I thought I saw a dim sum plate that looked interesting so when I got to the front I pointed and paid.
Don't get me wrong, it was good... but you must know by now that I am an adventurous eater, and the dish I ended up ordering was a ham omelette with a side order of whole wheat toast. It would appear that I travelled eight thousand miles to have breakfast at Cora's... though to be fair the waitresses were cuter, the service was faster, and the price was much more reasonable.
Because there did not appear to be another restaurant on the block I went back for lunch, and was equally pleased by my selection... but don't ask me what it was because I haven't got a clue. It had the right mix of meat and vegetables and did not appear to have ever barked, and I enjoyed it.
Tonight... Jade Palace in Kowloon to watch the fireworks!
