From time to time an event pops onto my radar that I really believe will be exciting to all IT Professionals. The SecTor Security Education Conference is one of those events, bringing some of the world's best IT security professionals to Toronto for two days in November.
I have spoken with some of the people who have been working diligently over the past months and longer to make this event a reality, and though not a security specialist myself I am looking forward to many of the presentations. Inspired by the reknowned 'BlackHat' event, SecTor is truly going to be a conference that Canada can be proud of. The sponsors read like a who's who of IT security, including CMS Consulting, Qualys, e-sentire, and the International Systems Security Association, as well as many more.
If you live in the Greater Toronto Area (or within driving distance) then you should definitely bring your entire IT department to this conference. If you don't then you should at least send one or two of your people to hear the seminars.
If IT Security is not one of your organization's greatest concerns then chances are that somebody has already penetrated your systems. It is no longer sufficient to have a good anti-virus and firewall solution in place. Do you know what else you need? If I did then I would be a speaker at SecTor. I cannot tell you what you do need, but I can encourage you to register for SecTor 2007 in Toronto to hear from the people who can.
Visit their site at www.sector.ca for more details, including registration, travel, and speaker information. I hope to see you there!
