Greetings from Chicago, Illinois.
Actually to be fair I am in Schaumburg, a suburb of the big city, and I have not yet seen a building over twenty-five stories, except on the flight into O’Hare.
It is always exciting to introduce exciting new concepts to fresh audiences, which is one of the reasons I so love my job. I was invited to teach Vista and Office 2007 Deployment at TechSelect, a week-long educational event for select clients of a large national software distributor. It is certainly a different experience from what I am used to.
I have really had a good time this week. The people are nice and friendly, and as always my class attendees are willing and eager to learn. I was not sure what to expect, but have not been disappointed. It is certainly a different audience from what I am used to, but that only means new people to connect with. Last night we went to a local brew-pub called RAM, and I got to chat with a bunch of IT pros who are not taking my class, but are still interested in what I am teaching. I am always open to talking with nice people who are passionate about what they do, and willing to learn new ways of doing them.
As much as I love Houston I am glad I am not there this week. Last week was great but they are battening down the hatches preparing for hurricanes, and that is just not my idea of fun. A colleague of mine told me that she was stuck in traffic for six hours because the roads were washed out... and that was on an Interstate. She sent me a story of a truck driver drowning in his cab which makes me glad I got out of there when I did!
Next week I get to stay home and relax before hitting the road again... I’ll write more from there. Have a great week-end!
