The ramblings of an IT Trainer and Community Leader

Wow... nearly a year. Who woulda thunk it?

Blog Roll

Daily Ramblings

The last couple of days have brought a number of unexpected experiences, none of which were unwelcome.

The ad read: 'Roger Waters Concert.  I have 1 ticket, 500 level, for the concert, this Saturday that is not going to be used. Convince me why I should give it to you and I just may!'

I saw it Thursday and figured that I would probably be one of dozens but I figured what the hey.  I've been in this city slightly less than two weeks, and I spent almost half of that period sick.  I wanted to get out and do something that I wouldn't normally do, and though I didn't know any of Water's solo work, I have always been a fan of Pink Floyd so how bad could it be?

My reply was detailed and communicative - those of you who read my blog know how I write - and I then forgot about it until I heard back from her (Denise) Friday afternoon with a couple of questions.  I answered them and figured I had made the first cut, but I would not get my hopes up.

To cut to the chase Denise is a fellow Mississaugan and we met at the GO station Saturday evening and took the train into town.  She had been quite clear in all of her communications that this was strictly platonic, which was fine by me.  We did however share many common interests, and the age difference did not prevent either of us from enjoying the conversation but especially the concert.

It was fantastic, an experience which I shall always remember.  With the exception of two or three songs which I didn't know he played every one of my favorite Floyd songs - I did not realize that the second half of the concert he would play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album.  Two of the three encores were all-time favorites of mine - Another Brick in the Wall and Comfortably Numb.  He also played a new song called Leaving Beirut which had an interesting story to it, and was (as was his attitude throughout) extremely anti-George W. Bush.  Of course that did not offend me,  though the premise of the song (which I actually enjoyed) was possibly naive.

All in all the evening was a success.  I saw an incredible concert - I never thought I would see Pink Floyd and this was the next best thing - and made a friend.  What could be better?

Have a good week folks... I'm going back to organizing the appartment.
