The World According to Mitch

The ramblings of an IT Trainer and Community Leader

News

Wow... nearly a year. Who woulda thunk it?

Blog Roll

On SBS, routable DNS, and perks to the job.

One of the perks to my position is that I have had the opportunity to make friends with some great people at Microsoft Canada, especially their team of IT Pro Advisors - Rick Claus, Bruce Cowper, Barnaby Jeans, and Damir Bersenic.  If these names sound familiar to you it is because they are the front line guys for TechNet Canada.  They are the guys who come into town several times per year and present at the tour events, and at our User Group meetings.

I have had a lot of discussions with them on various topics and one of them should be of interest to all IT Professionals in the SBS Community regarding the .local top-level domain names.  Rick Claus convinced me about six months ago to abandon this naming convention, and I have not looked back.

In a recent Newsgroup conversation I was reminded of this discussion and brought it up to Rick, who subsequently wrote a great article on the subject which he posted to his blog.  You can read it at http://blogs.technet.com/canitpro/archive/2006/03/05/421256.aspx.

My response to the post may sound black and white sometimes, but I truly believe that we all must find the time to stay current on the technology that we use because otherwise we will be overcome and will fall back.

I hope you all read it and let me know what you think!
